50MHz UKAC 2020

The results of the December  50MHz UKAC are presented below. Activity levels were good, views on tropo conditions were very varied. Those that tried meteor scatter found conditions good, with fast completion of QSOs.

Annual Summary

As you might expect, the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdowns resulted in a substantial increase in entries this year as there were fewer distractions from the radio. The number of logs received ranged from 139 in January to a peak of 249 in April, with 181 in the last two months of the year. A total of 516 stations sent in entries this year, up from 392 in 2019. All three sections saw a substantial increase in entries.

The 807 ARO group were again the leaders in the General Club section by a substantial margin, whilst Wirral and District ARC repeated their second place as in 2019, with Northern Fells moving up to claim third place.

Once again Hereford Amateur Radio Society won the Local Club section, with Tall Trees moving up to take the runner up slot, and Northampton Radio Club taking third place this year.

David G4ASR repeated his win in the AO section with a maximum 8000 points, with Chris & Pauline G4FZN(/P) as runner up this year. Roger G3MEH took third place. Awards for the leading intermediate and foundation stations go to Gabor M6YUG and Lyon 2E0WWP.

In the AR section Pete G4CLA repeated his 2019 performance and again achieved the maximum possible score from eight session wins. Runner up was Keith G4ODA quite close behind.  Dave G3TBK(/P) repeated third place. James 2E0OUT receives a certificate as leading intermediate entrant in this section, repeating last year's success.

This year the AL section winner is Tony G8DMU(/P), who put in a consistent performance from home and portable when permitted. Runner up was Steve G1PPA(/P), with Steve G0EAK(/P) in third place. Commiserations to another Steve, G1YBB/P who won all six sessions he entered but that was only enough to secure 15th place this year. The highest placed intermediate station was Andy 2E0XMB.  Mark M7UOK(/P) was the highest placed foundation entrant this year.

The award for the station providing the most entrants with their best DX goes to G4FZN(/P), who was best DX on 177 occasions.

Congratulations to all those listed, who receive certificates.

The first 50MHz UKAC of 2021 takes place on Thursday 14th January at 20:00 GMT.
